At all of our NPH homes, we receive many visitors over the course of the year. Visitors may stay for a maximum of two weeks, or just be visiting for a day. They may be sponsors, ex-volunteers, large groups, or simply a person with an interest in getting to know NPH better.
The Visitor Coordinator is responsible for organizing all visits to NPH. The Coordinator will organize transport, housing, and activities for the visitors, and generally make them feel comfortable and welcomed while visiting NPH.
Specific duties may include giving tours, cleaning visitor housing, picking up and dropping off visitors from the airport, communicating all pre-trip plans via email, organizing any meetings/activities planned during visits and for making sure all visitors read, sign and comply with our NPH International Visitor Policy.
This volunteer will work in collaboration with the National Director, House Director, caregivers, staff, the children and other volunteers.
A potential volunteer Visitor Coordinator, must be responsible, organized, and friendly. He or she should speak English, Spanish, and ideally German.
Each volunteer chooses an hogar (group of children of the same age living together) at the beginning of their year. Each home’s Volunteer Coordinator will communicate the expectations for hogar time. Usually, it is six days a week, 6 to 8 p.m., but this might vary per home. This has been described as the most fulfilling part of volunteering, the bond and relationships formed with their hogar of children.
Volunteers have every other weekend off, as well as up to 22 days of vacation time after four months of service. Vacation must be arranged according to the specific home’s policies.
All NPH volunteers receive room and board, access to medical care and a monthly stipend. Volunteers pay for their transportation to and from the home and medical insurance. Volunteers must serve for at least one year.
