Kevin’s Top 3 Memories of 2018

Kevin counts down his favorite moments from 2018 and makes big plans for 2019.
January 7, 2019 - Honduras

Meet Kevin, a charming eight-year-old member of the NPH Honduras family.

The New Year has kicked off at NPH Honduras. And it is bursting with possibility! Though we are excited to start 2019 and make plans for the future, it’s nice to take a moment to reflect on the cool things that happened during the previous year.

With so many fun moments like the Independence Day Parade, birthdays, graduations, Christmas, and New Year's, it’s hard to choose just a few! So when eight-year-old Kevin—a fun, smart, goofy boy—volunteered for the task, we didn’t hesitate to jot down his top three moments of 2018.

No. 3 Splash!

On hot afternoons during the weekend, nothing beats taking a dip in one of the cool reservoirs at NPH Honduras. After finishing his morning chores, Kevin and his friends like to go to the posa for a swim. The boys spend hours by the water, splashing about and playing games, only taking a break to eat lunch. “There you can have fun and learn how to swim,” he says.

No. 2 Surf’s Up!

In October, Kevin and his pals from the second grade went to Cedeño Beach, located in the southern region of the country. The trip started at sunrise, when the kids departed our main home in Tegucigalpa, and lasted until sunset. Although the bus ride was several hours long, Kevin and his friends passed the time playing, chatting, and listening to music. When they got to the beach, it was all worth it. It was a beautiful day. Who could say ‘no’ to spending an entire day at the beach? “I’d never been to the beach before and I had the opportunity to learn to swim!” And, Kevin added, to top off a great day, "I ate fried chicken and fish for lunch and dinner.”

No. 1 Goal!

Of all the fun things that Kevin did last year, the NPH Honduras Olympic Games in August had to be his favorite. In line with that summer’s tournament, the theme was the 2018 World Cup. It was an NPH-wide activity that included kids, volunteers, and even employees. Just imagine two full days of dancing, plays, relay games, and athletic endeavors all meant to develop self-confidence and leadership skills! “My favorite game was one where we had to stuff balloons down the clowns' costumes," says Kevin. And it just so happens that his team, Sweden, placed third in the games category, ultimately winning a pizza party!

2018 went out with a bang and 2019 looks just as promising. This year Kevin looks forward to participating in the same activities and seeing more of what NPH has to offer. In addition to swimming in the posa, going on fieldtrips, and competing in Olympic Games, he hopes to keep singing in the church choir and doing well in school.
