In Honduras, children born with disabilities are the first to be cast aside; the cost, the cultural stigma and the difficulties of caring for those living with physical and mental complications force too many families to abandon these precious children, or in the best of circumstances look for alternative care for them.
NPH Honduras is one of the largest organizations in the country that works with children living with chronic and severe disabilities on a permanent basis. We work with this population, have experience with them, and value what they provide to our community and the world. In our special needs house in Tegucigalpa, Casa Angeles (Angel House), we strive to provide exactly that and bring our special children a home, a family, and quality care.
We attend children with common as well as uncommon disabilities found in the country: Cerebral palsy, Hydrocephalus, Down's Syndrome, Microcephalus, Multiple disabilities, Blindness, Paraplegia, Deafness, among others.
The age range at Casa Ángeles is from three years old up to 27 years old. The greatest challenge of disability care is knowing that we are responsible for the future of these children, and will likely take care of each one for their entire life.
Through this project, we are able to cover all operational costs to provide quality care to these children: maintenance, public services, special dietary needs, specific therapies, medicine, caregiver salaries and so on.
We feel it is important that we do everything possible to attend to this population as there are so few options for them in Honduras beyond what NPH has the experience providing. Help us to help them!
