Catechist - from Jul 1, 2013 - 1 job for 13 months in NPH Honduras.
Teach Religion classes and help with certain religious activities here on the Ranch.
Work is divided between four major areas: religious education in the school, preparation for sacraments (in the homes rather than at school), youth group, and evening reflections.
Religious Education
Teach religious ed. one time a week for 30 minutes to 2 - 3 grades for a total of approximately 7-10 class hours a week
Plan age appropriate class activities using a combination of diocesan and orphanage programs and own creativity
Maintain discipline in the classroom
Collaborate with the Priest, school principal and vice-principal
Participate in school activities
Sacrament Preparation
Work with children for basic preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation in the homes and in mixed groups
Youth Group
Organize and lead regular meetings for youth aged approximately 14 to 20
Initiate and support service projects including pre-service preparation and post-service reflections
Assist the Priest in theater performances for special occasion and monthly bi-monthly Gospel dramatizations
Integrate into the different homes to support youth group members and be accessible to all of the young people
Support and direct the youth in starting and continuing a monthly newsletter about the youth group
Evening Reflections
Lead prayers/ reflections in individual homes and with larger groups
Encourage regular prayer in homes by supporting and giving ideas to the caretakers
Your schedule will be more or less the following:
Monday- Friday:
7:30 AM- 1PM Work at school (the bulk of this time will not be spent teaching and there will be time available for planning and rest)
1PM- 4PM Lunch and rest/ free time
4PM- 8PM Prayers/ youth group meeting/ time in homes
