Sonia
Sonia arrives at the Ranch.
December 30, 2009 - Honduras
Coming to the Rancho Santa Fe for the first time can be a very difficult thing to do. Sonia, a girl just 10 years old, arrived at NPH Honduras just a few days ago. After spending the last three years in the state run orphanage called INFAH, Sonia needed a new place, a stable place, a place that she could call home. | | | |

| Coming from Copan, home of some magnificent Mayan Ruins, Sonia left her mother because of all the punishments she endured. After four months at an INFAH home in San Pedro Sula, her physically disabled sister, Darling, came to the home, having been abandoned by their mother. In the shade of a big tree, with one of the nurses from our Internal Clinic combing the lice from her hair, Sonia shares a smile and some of her feelings. "I like it here" she says, "I came here on Monday, because I couldn't come on Sunday. Those are my favorite days, because that was the day that God rested, that is the day that we go to church." Beyond being very devoted to her Christianity, she also studies quite a bit. As a second grader her favorite subjects are Math and English because in the future both of these will help her to be more successful and fortunate.
